Check there are no parts sticking out, no obvious cracks or holes where an animal could escape and door locks are all working well. On an outdoor hutch is it important to check the wire mesh is still secure.
Its a great time to give the housing a good clean. If the animal is outdoors, choose a nice day and put the animal in a run or indoors let the animal out of the cage. Take all the bedding, bowls and bottles out of the cage and clean it with a good animal friendly disinfectant. We do sell safe animal sprays in our stores.
It is also a good idea to treat the hutch or cage with an insecticidal spray to keep mites, fleas and other parasites at bay, especially when the weather warms up. We do have sprays in stock.
If you do find that your small animal is showing signs of having fleas or mites we do stock a spot on treatment. Usually you would see itching, flaky skin and in some cases hair loss, especially around the tail and ears. It is a good idea to treat routinely in the summer, especially for outdoor animals. We also stock a fly strike protector spray.
If you do decide you need to purchase a new home for your small animal we do have a great range of cages and hutches in stock. Our hutches are all hand made and bespoke designs can be arranged, please ask a member of our team for details.
